Interested in the experiences of contractors who secure work and don't rely on recruitment agencies.

Direct and speculative job enquiries to companies or rely on friends, ex-colleagues and word-of-mouth etc?

If you go direct, do you market yourself / company with a glossy brochure, letter or web site?

How important is a web site for marketing, does it generate client enquiries / work?
