Just curious about the difference in how much difference there will be when you close down the company compared to going umbrella? If you can use your annual tax allowance over here for the income £350 per day for 6 months won't put you in the higher tax bracket either.

Also, would there be any tax liability in Canada for income derived from dividends / closing the company down if you are living there when the process happens?

Don't expect any tenants to deal with your mail. If you are lucky they will do nothing and let it pile up, if not they will do return to sender or bin it. Letting/estate agents are just as bad.

Instead find a relative who you have mutual trust with to help you, and use their address.

    Moving abroad after 6 months

Hi All. I have a couple of questions regards moving abroad after closing a LTD company. Whilst I'm speaking to my accountant, any further advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

I've just received my first 6 month contract in Web Development for at £350 a day (outside of IR35), so I have set up a LTD company, with me being the sole director. I'm planning on moving to Canada after the contract, and I'm fairly certain I want to shut the company down after the 6 months. After numerous calculations with my accountant, this was the most cost effective way of operating, despite the short-ish time period.

My accountant informed me that dissolving a company is a fairly straightforward process if you're the only party involved, so after the contract finished (December) this can be organised.

    My questions are:
    • Would leaving the UK almost immediately after striking off the company cause any issues? I'm planning on renting out my house (which is my business address) so I'm thinking possibly in terms of correspondence, or any sort of tax return required after the company has closed, which may be difficult to process after moving abroad?
    • On Companies House website (link) it states the company can't have traded in the past 3 months. Does this mean I would have to apply to strike off the company around March time, 3 months after the end of the contract?

I'm doing my best to learn about director responsibilities etc and I realise my circumstances are quite specific, but if anyone has anything else that I should consider or ask my accountant about in more details, that would be great!
