It's more complex than running one instance. Google "multiple mysql instances".

Cheers for the replies. To whom it may concern, after trying a number of self-hosted solutions I went with GetSimple, one of the many open source CMS solutions available. Not perfect but it will do for now. It runs on my personal LAMP server.
GetSimple is right at the "lite" end of things. It doesn't have a back end database and just uses XML files to store the data. This means I can host it on a server that already runs MySQL for something else, without the headache of two MySQL instances. Also it is very fast. Also, I think having a full RDBMS is overkill for a site comprising of just one or two static pages and a single user.
So anyway I just typed in the blurb and selected template. I might revisit later on and try Wordpress, htmly or even vi.

Usbwebserver V8
That's allowed me to weigh up what hosting package I need and it would typically be the cheapest. Like I said earlier, though, a dedicated Joomla hosting site may be even cheaper as they offer locked down functionality (i.e. Joomla only) but a bargain price to go with it.

LAMP implies your site depends on running php (or perl) and a database (MySQL). At the other end of the spectrum, a feather light website would be just a static HTML file. requiring only Apache or similar. That is what I want in this case. You don't have to convince me of Wordpress goodness. I know it's great, it just isn't my weapon of choice for this particular job.Last edited by unixman; 27 November 2015, 00:41.

For example, you could choose one like Bolt, Bigtree, Pagekit or Grav, mentioned above. Thing is, if the startup goes under, your chosen CMS presumably gets no more updates. Another thing is, they are all in love with a design style called "Responsive". You web guys will know more about this, but whatever the design philosophy is, it looks awful on a big screen.
Ruhoh and a few others are different again. The idea of blogging straight to Git is different also. I will try a few out and maybe put some pages up.
That giant Git list of self hosted solutions is here. CMS is only a small part. You Git wizards out there are probably miles ahead, but this is new for me.

Hmm. Thanks. Like the idea of drawing in the latest post or two from my own blog if possible.

Wordpress is popular on here. I actually have a separate Wordpress blog, and for the Ltd just want something static.

You have your Weeblies and so on, which are okay for a generic one-pager. Then again, there is some awesome stuff on github, and many open source CMS systems that allow you to create something posh just by writing a few text files with a bit of mark up. Or you could use Wordpress or Joomla, bit of a sledgehammer/nut though.
So how did you make your website? And more to the point, who is willing to share a link, so we can see the results? Promise not to copy. It's right click to download, right?
At the moment I am gravitating towards, er, Grav.
