If you've been there 4 months you will either have shown you're worth more or not. How expendible are you? You'll also know whether a request for a raise is going to be received by the client with hostility or not.

If you are going through an agency and they aren't open with you about their margins, then 6 months is a great time to ask them to take a cut in their rate. Your position is stronger with the agent if the client loves you and the agent doesn't have exclusive supplier rights to the client.

Its really just a poker game - posting blinds, limping in, bluffing. But remember if you are prepared to go all-in, you must be prepared to lose (your contract) also.

Rate Rise - When to ask !

    Hi All,

I'm at a contract with a large global company, the contract was initially for 6 months (now months 4) I have been told my contract will be extended by 6 months, maybe 12, possibly 18months.

So the question is when should one ask for a rate rise ? I know that by the 12 month or 18 month period the contract will end, so should I get in there ASAP or wait until the 12 month renal?

    Many thanks!
