Maybe that's because you have a very, very small...

Rock star coder. Makes my blood boil.

Let's face it, we (coders) are a bunch of sad geeks who just happen to earn a decent living (most of the time). I can't remember the last time I turned up at the client site and the women were throwing knickers at my monitor.

    :-(

"Land a gig"? Do you think of yourself as some sort of a rock star?

    Land a gig?
The question was an implied "why am i finding it unusually tough to find a role?"

You asked where he got that impression from, that is a source affirming this view, agree with it or not.

I've had 1 telephone interview in all that time - I thought the economy was supposed to be booming; the service sector especially. Is this just one of those slack periods or is it a much tougher market place than the last time I had to try and land a gig 3 years ago?

Or is the answer to my question in parentheses above?

I'm web development on the Microsoft .Net stack by the way.

I'm with Kaiser on this one.

LI for generic timeline of roles. The CV to tailor experience to the requirements of the role.

You can't mention everything on LI as soon as you talk about one thing you have to leave something else out. Keep it generic I say.
