Should I fill the cheque amount in "Tax refunded or set-off" and now deposit the cheque in my bank as the final calculated tax due is already adding up that amount?
    Hello Engineer123, i'm also doing my very first self-assessment online and found myself struggling with exactly the same problem you had here. I also received P800 a month ago but had to fill the self-assess. So wondering how you managed this problem. Did you deposit the cheque and fill that amount in "tax refunded" or you simply didn't deposit and put none on "tax refunded? Tried to call HMRC several times today but was on hold for more than 20 min each time and it just worn me out completely. It would be great if you could share your experience. Thanks!

    Speak to HMRC as advised above however I am sure they will ask you to bank the cheque as it is too difficult for them to cancel it.
    I am in the same boat as the OP. I dried to deposit the cheque and a few days later got a letter from my bank saying it had been cancelled.

    Which section do i enter these details? I guess foreign income is just for non- employment income. Do i enter them in employment section with amounts converted to GBP?
    I strongly advise that you do not attempt this without the help of your accountant.

    There are several parts of the form that need to be completed, mainly the residency and foreign pages, and it can be very complicated.

    2. I want to make one off payment of all the tax due instead of through the PAYE code adjustment for tax year 2013-14 and 2014-15. I have selected "No" to both the questions in the section "If you have not paid enough tax". At what stage will the system allow to make the one time payment through debit card/ bank transfer?
    For item (1), call the HMRC on 0845 300 0627. When you received the incorrect P800 you should have done this anyway. Get that tax year cleared up, and take advice from the HMRC re what to do with the cheque;

    For item (2), once the tax return has been filed with the HMRC you have until 31 Jan 2014 to pay any taxes due. The payment process is not integral with the submission of the personal tax return. IANAA but I would say that you bank the cheque and separately do the self-assessment. Tick the boxes saying you don't want a PAYE code adjustment. If there is tax owed after doing the SA then you can be sure that Hector will find a way to let you know how much, how to pay, and by when.
