Another point for something like MoneySoft then, as you can print off P60's from that (and others, I'm sure).

You may even find it's your install of Windows that is the issue; these days, the manufacturers pack their own Windows installs with so much crud it's ridiculous, often gives me problems with certain programs etc. First thing I do if I (or family) buy a new PC is immediately reinstall a fresh, clean version of Windows to get rid of all that bloatware. Annoying I admit, but so worth it as the computer runs so-oooooooo much better without all that junk.

Don't know to say other than you just download the installer and it runs fine, at least on my Win7 machine it does (Dell XPS13 fwiw).

Bit worrying re: your accountant; if they handle payroll for any of their clients, they will need to ensure that their own software is upgraded and compatible with RTI. Info on HMRC site seems pretty clear to me.

I really can't understand it. I can try again. A year ago when I got the new computer I tried to down load it but it would only install an update but since it wasn't acually there it wouldn't work. HMRC said they don't do CDs any more. I managed to find the original CD, installed it, did all the upgrade but is simpley didn't work, needed some Adobe fix, down loaded that still didn't work. HMRC help desk absolutely useless.
I'll have another go at doing a new install, if they doesn't work I guess I will be getting some commercial s/w.
Another thing, since the year end returns are on line I can't print my P60. It won't even let me print it to a pdf to print elsewhere. I needed the P60 to support a visa application so I needed to get an SA302 from HMRC instead.

So how does Basic Tools run then. I used to run this on XP until my lap top gave up. On the new Windows 7 lap top it doesn't work. If this is the tool that HMRC is expecting me to use then shouldn't it be compatible with the PCs that 99.9% of people are using.
I asked if they could give me paper tax and NI tables and they wouldn't even do that. Given that implementation is a few months off aren't they running this a bit close. Even my accountant doesn't know what is happening. Do I detect a huge foul up coming? Of course it wont be HMRC's fault.

I use payroo, it's free and great, I have 3 employees and it just works. Holidays, ssp, spp, payslips etc all catered for. Does the tax yearend with a couple of clicks.

They have a new version of this that is compatible with RTI, but I don't think you can get your mitts on it yet unless you are in the RTI trial (it's on their website somewhere).

And Basic Tools is Java-based, I believe...it doesn't run via IE, or at least mine doesn't.

Failing that, something like MoneySoft might be worth a punt.

Yep MoneySoft. Costs about £70 but much slicker than HMRCs own stuff.

Anybody got any concerns about this starting in April. I can't get the Basic Tools to work and HMRC Help Desk is useless. They just say that Basic Tools is not designed to work with Internet Explorer, how useful is that.
