Howdy peeps,
New to this game and my small time local accountant has, imho, totally shafted me with my VAT and FRS registration. I was not advised I should be on it by them, and actually believed I was already on it so paid my VAT out of ignorance. they then recommended I went on it after my first return (they said they couldn't possibly have just asked me a couple of questions before hand to find out if I would be better off - had to wait for a real return! WTF?) and then that didn't come through in time. I was advised by HMRC that my registration could be backdated a few periods, and my accountant agreed this and as such I then paid my 20% VAT bill under the belief that the next time it can be back dated and I'll have a negligible one to pay. But apparently it's not possible to do this and I feel I've been screwed out of maybe £2-3k of VAT. I'm been ignorant and lazy and need to improve, but I pay them to know what I don't. I'm planning on moving to Nixon Williams for what I hope will be a more regimented and proactive service, but need to tie up where I am at the moment
So my question mostly is, does anyone here have any tails of successfully back dating FRS dates? Whilst I was advised 2:1 by HMRC that this is not possible (but I could appeal in writing), other sources have said it's down to who you're dealing with etc.
Thanks
Chris
