    Agree with Tyke…

Your average 22 year old “mortgage advisor” on the high street will have problems understanding what a contractor is….they will stick to their mantra of “2 years accounts needed”…..

However, if you go via one of the contractor specialist companies that advertise on here, you may have better luck. They can approach the underwriters directly . Worth speaking to them….

I'd also agree that your accountant doesn't need to be close to be useful. I'm happily employing Nixon Williams for my accounts and have never set foot in their offices.

I suppose I could if I really needed to as they're about 80 miles away, but I don't think it's likely I would have to.

Incidentally while you will arguably trouser a higher percentage of your rate as a Ltd, it can be more challenging to get a mortgage as the Director of a MyCo Ltd. While working via an umbrella you can quite correctly state you're in full time employment with a salaried income.
It's far from impossible to get a mortgage with small salary and dividend payments, but it can be more complicated.

I have been working under an Umbrella for the last 8 months and have decided to go to Ltd as I intend on buying a house in the next 12 months or so and receive the tax/VAT benefits.
Can anyone recommend a good Accountant with IT Contracting experience in the Midlands (preferably in Peterborough)?
    Thanks
Are you sure you want an accountant based locally? The specialist contractor accountants tend to deal online and understand the relevant legislation inside out.

They do all the accounting via their websites and you can get advice by phone, email or online chat without having to take time off from your contract.

I am with Intouch Accounting who have very good so far, but there are several other specialists.

    Good luck with your search!
