Can anyone help with an issue regarding contracting in Finland? In October I will have been here for 6 months, working via a UK umbrella. I have been offered a 6 month extension, so need to find an alternative to the umbrella. If I go the the Finnish tax authorities, I understand I will have to pay back the difference between local and UK taxes for the first 6 months I have been here (which could be a lot), and I would still need an umbrella company, or similar, to handle my payroll. Someone has even said I would have to pay the full 6 months worth of tax, and that I wouldn't get anything back from Hector , which seems unlikely.
Is there anyway to avoid paying anything back? Perhaps a new contract, as opposed to an extension?
I spoken to a couple of companies offering possible solutions. One of these uses a solution involving approximately half my salary going to Switzerland, and paying Swiss corporation tax on that part (or something like that). Would Hector be interested in that when I return to the UK? The other appears slightly more 'legit' (although it involves paying Spanish social security), but doesn't give me a very good retention (about 53% if I let my UK flat, 62% if I don't).
Any suggestions/comments? Thanks.
