    Are you talking about the basic state pension or a private pension.
    In the UK I need 30 qualifying years but if you are young you may need more.
    I suppose it depends where you want to end up when you are old. Do you want to transfer your German portion to the UK or your UK portion to Germany.

    I will have to stay at my new permie gig in Munich for at least 5 years to qualify for the pension.

    Since I have did a 2 year permie stint in the UK some years ago, is it possible that I would only have to stick at the Munich job for 3 years in order to qualify for a pension?...*keeps fingers crossed*
