I bought the Instant Business Package today. Ok.. it's a bit more expensive than the instant payroll and accounts software. I'm hoping it's a worthwhile investment. I've tried a couple of other accounts package (including the MS free one), not overly impressed with them and seems overly complex to use. Am hoping that the Sage software will be easier to use.

I have just started using this:

    http://www.freeagentcentral.com/index

I like it because it seems to take care of everything concerned with running a small contractor/freelance business (including paye and dividends) and most importantly keeps me 100% informed of the financial and tax position of my Ltd Co and my Self Assessment in real time (also I hate complex spreadsheets which this does away with). Also great support and a growing user base following.

Many accountants support it. You can export a ledger from it and email it to your accountant or even give them a login for it to keep them up to date with your accounts. Some accountants include the subscription fee in their price. It's £25 per month to subscribe to for a Ltd co. [I can provide a link for 10% discount privately if PM'd but won't quote that here due to forum rules].

Anyone used Payroo? It seems to be accredited and free for 5 years (although it's web based and has adverts)

    MYOB Payroll

I use MYOB Payroll which was available for free from www.myob.co.uk/freepayrollsoftware. Some limitations - 1 Company with (max) 3 employees but it is HMRC Accreditated and although free, is supported with updates by MYOB.

For my invoicing / quotations / accounting i use Business Accountz which is available from Amazon.

Take a look at www.diyaccounting.co.uk depends on what you are looking for, this package is a series of spreadsheets which are linked together, may be an option if your on a tight budget, you can include payroll with the accounts package, I use this and have had no problems to date..
