There was a survey by the FSB a couple of months back that found something like 60% of employees drive on company business without appropriate insurance - and highlighted the fact that the employer has a duty of care to ensure that employees have suitable cars and insurance cover. I think this may be the trigger for all this sudden interest in the issue.Originally posted by IR35 Avoider View PostI don't think this is routine health and safey, I think this has come up because of recent court case where after an accident a company was held responsible for the state of its workers cars. Can't remember any of the details.

Do you ever give any of the permies a lift in your car to the other sites? If so, they could argue they are only looking after their own staff.

It's probably just a general circular that the PM doesn't realise that he doesn't have to get contractors to do.
You know what PMs are like - anything HR they cc to the world and his dog...

yes I see what you mean for those who are operating Ltd comp. Its just a bit of a pain in the behind for him.Originally posted by TheFaQQer View PostIt could possibly be an indicator of a disguised employee, though, which is dangerous.
If you are using an umbrella, or are IR35 caught, then there's nothing to be gained by not giving them what they ask for.

Possibly, but this is a requirement for the client to check their employees. Are they asking the Royal Mail delivery person, or their cleaners to prove that they are insured to get to site? If not, then it's none of their business!!Originally posted by Kylie4485 View Postwouldn't it just be easier to photocopy the documents.

That depends upon whether you ticked the 'including business mileage' box on your car insurance and paid the higher premium. Many people don't.Originally posted by Kylie4485 View Postwouldn't it just be easier to photocopy the documents.

Tell him you don't drive for his company business. You have already passed a full inspection by your employer, and can get a director to warrant that this has been done.

Management of Occupational Road Risk!
ello,
got a mail this morning from the manager on my project which condenses down to
"I need to take a responsible approach towards anyone that drives on company business for Health & Safety reasons. This means checking that you have a valid licence and the car(s) that you use to travel on company business are properly insured etc. Please can you provide me with photocopies of your driving licence plus M.O.T. certificate(s) and insurance certificate(s) for any vehicle(s) that you use to travel on company business"
Based out of one site but need to go to a different site maybe 3-4 times a month. Use my own car and claim mileage through Ltd.
I'm thinking they can stuff that request where the sun dont shine - BUT anyone else had this or seen it???? F H&S brigade again
