Jim,
if this were me, I'd want to be damned sure that there was some way of guaranteeing that I was going to get paid.
Taking legal action against a US company for non-payment ain't gonna be easy.

Guest repliedNo UK Subsidiary
I will be creating a UK comany or working for an umbrella company and invoicing a company in the US.
The US company want to put together a contract and want to know what I want to see in the contract.
I think you're right in that I need to talk to an accountant. Are there any accountants who specialise in this situation?

Guest replieddo you mean your own ltd company will be registered in the US?
surely not.
So in fact, you will be creating a UK LTD company (or working through a UK umbrella company), and invoicing the UK subsidiary of a US company. In fact, I don't think you need to do anything different from working as a contracting, and contracting your services to UK clients.
It would get trickier if your US-based clients have no UK subsidiary you can invoice. If you need to invoice in the US, maybe talk to an accountant to get it right.

I'm currently considering working in the UK as a contractor for a US company.
I've never worked as a contractor before, so what do I need to know?Tags: None
