Working abroad
If the work is being carried out in Portugal then would need to be declared over there. Not sure on the cost of setting up and maintaining a Portuguese company is but a quick google search will find out......be better to operate through a company in Portugal is my first thought. In terms of umbrella companies, you'll need a company that can deal with Portuguese tax law as you'll be resident and carrying out work over there.

Starting as IT Contractor for a UK company while living abroad
Hi everyone,
I’m Portuguese and have been living in London for the past 4.5 years. I’m currently permanently employed and have been so since living in the UK.
I am now considering moving back to Portugal due to family related reasons and have started conversations with my employer about continuing to work for them remotely from Portugal.
The current potential solution on the table is for me to become a Contractor.
I’ve never been one so I’ve been doing dome online research about this but couldn’t find an answer to my particular situation.
Can someone help me understand what I need to do here, i.e should I setup a UK Ltd Company, PT Ltd Company or search for an umbrella?
In terms of taxes, where will I need to declare my income?
Also, I assume NI will be payed to PT and not UK, right?
Thanks in advance!
