A question on Contract Termination

Could you not ask them to send you a written notice just to be sure, although it looks like they are being generous with 4 weeks notice ? if they are only legally obliged to give
you one week.

Cheers eric. To be honest, I doubt if the managers who decided to terminate are even aware of the contents of my contract, otherwise I may have been out in a week :lol

As far as they're concerned the contract is over, but if they tried to squeeze me on price for any follow up consultancy it might be useful to point out that the contracted rate still stands! (Of course it could work against me too I suppose).

Presumably the situation where I'm under contract but only charging for a few days here and there is more IR35 friendly too.

If the contract was drawn up really well initially, it would have stated how termination would be notified. For example, my last direct contract stated that termination, changes to details etc etc would be valid from date of receipt of actual letter.

My client decided to terminate my contract during a cost-cutting exercise. I have a direct contract, with one weeks written notice on either side. They confirmed the termination via an email (giving me four weeks notice).

My question is, does an email count as 'written notice'.

I've no actual problem here, but there's an outside chance of the odd few days consultancy here and there before the contract expiry date, and I want to be prepared for any negotiation on rate etc!
