UK contractor visiting client in US

Hello,

My Ltd company has with a client company based in Canada. 100% of my work (which is software developing) is carried out from home in the UK. The client also has offices in the US. I have been asked to visit for a week 4 or 5 times a year. The purpose of the visit would be to meet with people overseeing my work; provide project updates, gather requirements for future work, receive training etc. I should probably also mention I am paid entirely by the Canadian arm of the company.

I have tried to read as much as possible regarding my eligibility to enter the US for these purposes under the VWP, but the whole thing seems a massive grey area. Anyone have any experience of such a situation?

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows citizens of participating countries* to travel to the United States without obtaining a visa, for stays of 90 days or less for tourism or business. Transiting or traveling through the United States to Canada or Mexico is generally permitted for VWP travelers. The following are examples of activities permitted while in the United States on the VWP.

consult with business associates
attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention or conference
attend short-term training (you may not be paid by any source in the United States with the exception of expenses incidental to your stay)
negotiate a contract

Sounds like you are consulting with business associates.
