Hull - I spent 3 days there in 1995. I still shudder at the thought of it.

Surbiton - Even the name reeks of smug suburbia.

Gibraltar - More inbreeding than East Anglia.

Islington - Too many tossers for it to be worth saving

To be honest it's a cracking night out, no trouble, lots of bars, lots of variety, everyone's friendly. Not sure what there is to do when you're sober, but I've never been sober in Newcastle.

No way! My favourite kebab shop in the world ever is in Chorlton!

You can take the rest of it though. There was some daft survey a couple of years ago that said Chorlton had the largest percentage of single women compared to the rest of the UK (or something) - they forgot to point out that this had a correlation with largest number of women wearing Doc Marten's, dungarees and short haircuts.

I hate statistics. 99% of the time, anyway.

There's a good pie shop round the corner from the Reebok stadium. And there was a good stall at the market that did jeans in my size, but it closed.

Bolton. There is nothing endearing about this place. Actually there is a good pie shop round the corner from the Reebok stadium. But that's it.

perhaps it's improved - I haven't been for a good few years always reminded me of a cross between blackpool and magaluf but not so upmarket...

They brought in this zero tolerance policy to 'clean up the streets' so maybe that is helped. And it got voted 3rd best party city in the world by some reputable mag or tv program or something. Maybe it was the Newcastle Herald.

Newcastle was recently voted the eighth best party city in the world by American travel experts Weissman Travel and was the only British city to make it onto the list! Newcastle has also been voted second best city in Europe for social life, and in a recent poll of office workers and students it was voted the best city in England for work and study.

So there you have it you doubting Thomas's.
