Have you not cottoned on yet - us ordinary Jo's aren't supposed to understand it!! Heaven forbid, if they made tax law simple and explained it in terms that everyone could understand, where would that leave the multitudes who earn a living off the back of it - the accountants, the tax specialists, the departments for tax enquiries, the "help line" employees and all those who work in the tax tribunal systems....not to mention those such as the Edge and other scheme creators who wouldn't have had the opportunity to think up those schemes if tax law was plain to all.... think of the unemployment it would cause. It's an industry to itself and that's how it will stay. You pays your money and you takes you choice, we chose to work for Edge, now we're tax industry fodder, just think of all those people were keeping employed. Every cloud, eh?

Know what about - the pre-APN letter? Some Edge folk have received it? I wasn't aware of such.

I was on the blower to them regarding the settlement opportunity. I asked them about APN's for the companies I used. They said the two I mentioned would be sent out in the next 8 weeks.

Did they say what class of NICs it was (class 1, 4 etc)?

I haven't heard of any other assessments including NICs.
I don't know what type it was, but they just sent me a letter informing me that they're lodging a claim with the County Court to protect their position with regard to NI contributions. They already did this for the PAYE some time ago.

              APN

Any Edge/Norla users who have received a precursor or APN?

                Lurkers

I wonder how many ex-Edge are still lurking on this forum, not involved, *hoping* they won't get an APN..?

We have a real fight on our hands - Are you going to just going to roll over with whimper or fight? Retrospective taxation is a disgusting abuse of power.

                You need to ASAP:

I'd skip 4/ and instead request a face to face meeting with them - letters go directly to the shredder and are generally a waste of your time.
Present your personal situation and demand your MP states clearly their position on retrospective taxation and the APN/FN legislation.
Make the point clear that you will be keeping the whole thing in mind come the GE.

Yes, I know it may sound derisory, but it's not. Butterfly effect and all that.

I spoke to my MP and he basically didn't care. He has a safe seat and told me that it was only fair that everyone pays the tax that they owe blah blah blah..... Do any MPs actually care about this?

Of course you're gonna get the unavoidable a**holes that will just regurgitate the Gauke/Osborne rethoric in the hope that you go away quietly and leave them alone (don't!).
Some get genuinely revolted by the whole thing (Mark Field, MP of City of London & Westminster, comes to mind)
Most have no idea about the APN/FN legislation, let alone its consequences on non-millionaire,non-celeb, average Joes like us.

At the end of the day, all MPs are supposed to represent us, and should be held accountable.
If they are being a dick or ignoring you, at the very least, make your dissatisfaction clearly known...
