HMRC EBT-Any groups taking members to explore options with regards to what to do next

    Hello All,

I received a notice from HMRC this week for a figure close to 7,000 GBP for 2010-2011 when I contracted through Bedouin.

I left the company prior to November 2010 and therefore thought that I would be exempt from any of this chasing by HMRC even if they found these schemes to be borderline.

Are there any groups of like-minded contractors out there that want to explore options with regards to what to do next that i could pool resources with?

Another interesting kicker is that I now live in the USA, with little intention to return to the UK, although own some investment property there. As I will be Non-Dom in the next few months, I will not be subject to inheritance or capital gains taxes, so wondering if this affects the position I should take in any way?

Any groups taking members to explore options with regards to what to do next

Please, I am pulling my hair out with the HMRC, received the second reply letter back from Bedouin to send to the HMRC again. What happens after this? My so called accountant has more or less washed his hands of me and recommended that I get a tax specialist, which I am sure I can not afford, so will probably try and pay the HMRC, but I do not have a pot to....... in. I am PAYE at the moment, but going limited in the next few weeks. Also spoke to many umbrella companies this week, about going limited, they also said I had nothing to worry about from my concerns with Bedouin, as they acted within the law. Yet, all I hear is contradicting reports!

I would be very interested in joining a group, but is it worth it. To my calculations I owe around £5,000.

Please help me, feeling like I am having nervous breakdown. I only joined Bedouin, because the agency I worked for did not do PAYE, so no work no pay. I got a phone call from this agency, at 9am, by 10am I had the contract, but had to be on the North Sea asset the following morning. Bedouin phoned myself at 11am, I boarded the fixed wing to Aberdeen at 3pm. It was quick as that!! I do have faith in Michele, but I feel I am holding the baby. My year relates to 2012-2013.

Hearing they've just gone through a 'name change' again from a friend who's still daft enough to be using this mob. Anyone know anything ?

In the experience of myself and many others that is very misguided. Seek advice away from that crowd ASAP.

            Stay away

My advice to anyone who wants to use Bedouin for their tax is to AVOID THEM because it will only come back and bite you big time! You do not want to be in my situation or even worse, the situation of anyone who used them for many more years than myself. Thankfully, I only used them for 2 years and then was forced to use another company as the agency I went to refused to have anything to do with them. I was annoyed at the time but SO grateful now.

I have had demands for 2009-10 (£7000) and 2010-11 (£5700) and despite it being very difficult to come up with this money, I am paying it because I just want it all over and done with. I did speak with Sarah Icely at Bedouin and she said they have a standard reply template to send back to HMRC. I'm not sure I'll bother as it will just prolong their demands and increase the interest owing.

So, I will pay this 2nd demand now and never again trust some scheme like this that sounds too good to be true.

I too have received the same letter. They have a quote of £17100 .. straight 50% tax charge. I'm not sure which path to go down now.

                  Hmrc settlement opportunity

The Settlement Opportunity expires in about 90 days and a lot of contractors caught up in this are still choosing to ignore it.

I set out below the two main reasons why nearly all those that have not yet applied should do so now and obtain from HMRC the tax and interest calculations of their (albeit disputed) liability:

                  1. To quantify which years and amounts HMRC say are included in the dispute and confirm that these are in fact correct. This can take some time.
                  2. In preparation for the Accelerated Payment Notices (which will only allow 90 days to quantify the correct liabilities) and agree terms for payment within the deadline (to avoid Late Payment Penalties).

The tax and interest calculation can be obtained by completing and submitting the HMRC form DO3 which can be downloaded at:

                    Hello guys,

Been a member here for years but haven't been a contractor for the last few.

Got the dreaded letter from HMRC last week too - completely out of the blue.

I'm trying to respond to this in a controlled manner. So far, I've sent a copy of the HMRC letter to Bedouin who advised they will respond within 48 hours.

I guess if we all respond in the same way, there is a better chance of a favourable outcome.

                      Hi Michael

As the settlement opportunity is for tax years up to April 2011, what do you recommend for those with an open query into contractor loan schemes in tax years after 2011?
