I've been renewed until the end of the year, but once I move to Devon the weekly commute will be a drag.

Any suggestions for the quickest daytime route from Cambridge to, say, Bristol? I presume M11, M25, M4 isn't necessarily it on a friday evening at 6pm (although it is probably fairly optimal going the other way at 10pm on a sunday).

I plotted what looked quite a good one skirting Milton Keynes and down past Oxford towards Swindon. But I suspect that would involve literally dozens of roundabouts round M.K.
    Nick - Have a CCL

OH - We go down to Devon at least once a month and the worst bit is Tottenham to the A40 at Hangar Lane via A406 North Circular.

The A40-M25-M4-M5 bit is usually pretty alright, obviously there are rare occasions where it majorly f..ks up but generally home (N17) to my place in Devon is 3.5 hours.

I would suggest an early or late departure to avoid the peak rush hour on a Friday.

Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.

Can't afford somewhere big enough and with a decent sized garden, plus there's nice countryside and beaches.

Also you can get a lot for your money in Devon, and in coming years with more people home working the price differences between the south east and elsewhere may reduce.
