To the OP: I can’t answer your question statistically but the game mechanic (I know it as exploding dice) I have used in many games, so empirical evidence would say that with a gaming group of 8 people it occurs maybe 2-3 time an 10 hour session (if that helps at all)

I had forgotten linearity of expectation.
Think you're right, I was confusing probabilities with the required outcome which was no. of successes. Something MUN said in his initial email led to that confusion. He wondered how you could get a probability > 1, but actually we aren't looking at probability but expected no. of successes.

Well your expertise is clearly not stats, which requires a solid grasp of maths. We can all take the fallback position of having "forgotten"... Most of us studied some stats at Uni or before.

Why would I contribute? This thread is done. But you can't let it go, because you've blown your cover.

What makes me laugh, going back through your threads , is that you never post anything concrete. You just take cheap shots at those who do. Here, you thought you could display your skills, but it's backfired.

My maths is OK, albeit of the applied level, I have a MSc in stats and successfully do statistical modelling most days for my crust.
