This looks very interesting, just seen some pictures from the last one and, well, I would definitely go: The Wandering Chef: A Dance With The Green Fairy
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Unfortunately my background is not one which involved expensive restaurants so I know little about it (only second year as a contractor). I thought of Harrods simply because even I know that it is a 'posh' place, for all I know the food is horrible!

Anyone got any suggestions for a nice restaurant in London suitable for a surprise anniversary meal?
      Try the Chutney Spoon.

Any particular hawksmoor? There seem to be several.
I wouldn't rule out Chinese or Indian as there are some top notch ( Michelin) restaurants at that level.

Oh, I also forgot to add Hibiscus to my list.

Those in the West Country not wishing to head to London for a cow chop should try The Herd in bath it's equally as good as the hawksmoor and not as stuffy.

If I was looking for something special I might suggest you look at Jamie Oliver's BBQ place near St. Paul's....

You mean barbecoa, good food, but not what I would recommend for a special evening, it's run like a sweat shop and the staff are way too impersonal and often cock up orders.

Maze Grill (just off Hyde Park on Park Lane or Mayfair - I can't remember but a posh Monopoly square) would cost nearer that level if you're having a proper 3 courses without looking at the prices. Basically all about the steak.
Maze has gone downhill since Jason Atherton left the helm and it's yet another one of the Gordon Ramsay ( aka McDonalds) empire.

Much as I love sushi, after only having it for the first time when in Australia early last year, I haven't got a clue what anything is. I only tend to eat it if there's a sushi train so I can just pick up whatever I like the looks of. I've been looking for a good sushi train in London but haven't been able to find one (and something puts me off Yo Sushi, but I'm not sure why).
