Sorry for such a long list chef, hopefully you've seen some of these so can whittle it down quickly:

The Lives of Others - this is really very good if you haven't seen it
Michael Clayton - also surprisingly good
    The Kite Runner
    Zero Dark Thirty
    Inception
    Frost Nixon
    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
    Fight Club
    K-Pax
    The Sixth Sense
    The Proposition
    Sexy Beast
    Lucky Number Slevin
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
    Oh Brother Where Art Thou
    Midnight Run

For some romp-around violence with humour:
    Pulp Fiction
Kick Ass (n.b. not KA 2)
God Bless America (well, I liked it, a lot)
    Old Boy
    Inglorious Basterds

Tucker and Dale vs Evil has got to be one of the funniest horror type films I have seen in a while!!!!!! I watched it again a short time ago and still make me chuckle.

I'd never heard of Christoph Waltz before this film, but was blown away by his performance.
Also thought he was amazing in Django Unchained.

He wasn't so good in The Green Hornet though, although to be fair, no-one was any good in that film.

I'm starting to think I'm rather too uncritical about films, after moderately enjoying most of Abandoned Mine (2013) before checking the reviews and seeing how totally turkeyish the whole thing was (which in retrospect I agree with).

I missed the last ten minutes, after dozing off (which I almost never do normally while watching a film), and now I can't for the life of me find a plot synopsis to check who, if anyone, survived. Hopefully the fat fecker who went around saying "awesome dude" didn't!
