I've had a wasp related crash. No-one died though - not even the wasp.

Well that is true but not necessarily specifically to do with size or potency of the sting.
Humans can potentially die if stung by a wasp, a bee or even gnats etc. They can even potentially die from drinking milk, eggs seafood or nuts.

It is called anaphylactic shock.
