Its a standard practice for all people arrested by the police. Personally I think DNA/fingerprinting should only be reserved for those arrested who are immediately suspected of very serious crimes where such information may be necessary.

On the other hand if you do not collect such primary information then how would you know who you arrested? The person can lie, but at least DNA/fingerprints will allow to ascertain that a particular person was actually in custody, this limits possibility of mistaken identify in the future.

Kids should be in the library or in gym, or do something useful rather than break cherry trees for the sake of building something.

      You utter fascist

These are 12 year old kids - decent ones - not criminals or terrorists!

It used to be considered quite natural for kids to climb trees once upon a time. All the cops had to do was tell them to get out of the tree - not arrest them and DNA swab them!

Should be 'in the library or the gym' FFS!

That's good to hear - now that they had police experience they will be even better.

I was in Stratford-Upon-Avon last week and seen there nice area with sand and stuff with lots of kids there with their parents, looked very organised and cost-efficient: need more of these things, plus ID card system that would monitor and ensure that all parents walk their kids there at least a few times a month.

Excellent idea - in a few years time, you're going to feel right at home here.

I think it’s down to the type of person recruited to be in the police force these days. I’ve had a neighbour beaten up and hospitalised by intruders. The police interviewed the intruders and as they hadn’t stolen anything they considered it a civil matter. My friends car stolen, and the known criminal who took it said he had paid for it therefore the police said it’s a civil matter. A disabled friend was being attacked by thugs, and he was asked to come to the police station and make a statement as there was no officer available. In my youthful day I respected the police now I am totally sickened by the police attitude and corruption. If the kinds were black there would be no way that there were treated like that. As there the person who reported them, did he/she go and speak to them first?

Sad isn't it. Most kids are rubbish these days. Probably couldn't climb a tree anyway - or thier iPod headphones would get tangled in the branches or something - pasty little w@nkers.

I thought these kids should be encouraged in their sense of innocent adventure - not pounded on by the hobnailed boot of the state.

Should kids be allowed to smash up whatever they like?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

For the same reason there is not much traffic on the roads!
