You realise that shells are designed to shatter, don't you? So what you're left with are small pieces of twisted metal. It's not solid like a bullet, which whilst it may be deformed would still normally be in one piece.

The real issue for me is demonstrating that it was indeed Assad's forces that did this, and then sowing that it can be stopped with air strikes against military targets.
      Balls

You don't add more fuel to the fire by taking the side of Al Qaeda - as I keep repeating! What you do is support those fighting terrorism - Assad/Iraq are fighting the real terrorism, the type that we saw in 7/7 and 9/11 but on a much larger scale. With that support you can then have some influence in the region and bring everybody to the table.

As extreme and opposite as that is to what the government is proposing, it is the only way to calm the region down i.e. we need to stop the instigators and source of all the violence - Al Qaeda and their sympathisers.

Do you really think the middle East can be stabilised as a result of external action?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

I didn't say there needs to be external action, I said we need to support those who are fighting the real enemy, not weaken them thereby strengthening our enemy even more!

If any military action should be taking place then it should be against Al Qaeda - that is Al Qaeda in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon etc. We have seen that the people of those countries don't want them in their countries so anything we can do to help them in that objective is bound to bring about good will and the ability to actually make a difference in the region.....

It's rather more nuanced than that. Some of them support him and some of them don't.

How can you stop sectarian violence anyway they've got to want to stop hating each other, and theres too many vested interests for that to ever happen in our lifetimes at least
