        I know you horrible lot of cynics will sneer at this but I am afraid it is quite true that having an intermediary to help smooth the path is very useful indeed. The same applies to financial advice, legal advice or using a Macmillan nurse.

        Of course it only really works when the recruiter is skilled and knows what he is doing and has the emotional intelligence to do the job properly. Most do not.
