What, like the key point that the early Christians accepted that a man may have more than one wife, just as had been the tradition in Judaism? Or that marriage has changed through time and is just going through another change?Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostNice of you all to keep skipping over the key points....And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Civil Parterships are legal, and were opposed by swivel eyed loons who said they'd destroy society. But they didn't destroy society, so some people now want the full blown 'marriage. Apparently, Civil Union doesn't give the full legal rights of marriage around inheritances. Oh apparently it does.Originally posted by SimonMac View PostOK, a key point can someone explain to me the difference between Marriage and Civil Partnership please? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Eh?Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostSo you have proven my original point - let's just open it up completely and normalise all those things we previously and currently viewed as immoral.
I am wondering why it used not to be OK for people to get divorced and then marry again but now it is OK .
I am wondering why polygamy used to be OK but now it isn't OK?
And on that basis, I am wondering why you think that marriage is unchangeable when we've accommodated changes before.Comment

The old and the new all make it clear that marriage should be between man and woman. And they key point is if we are to open it to gays then why not open it to incest and animals as well - in the former the consent would be there for sure. Let's just open it up completely so it can be defined in any way or form. If it has no holy or religious connotation then why does it matter how or who defines it. Let's make it completely ambiguous -Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostWhat, like the key point that the early Christians accepted that a man may have more than one wife, just as had been the tradition in Judaism? you keep using the concept of divorce like it is some kind of new thing in every religion and faith. You are using details of a particular faith to argue your point which makes no sense.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostEh?

Divorce exits in many religions - albeit as a last resort, but it does exist.
polygamy is still ok in some according to some faiths - so this hasn't really changed - but the polygamy remains between male and female not multiple males.

Plenty of gay people manage to get married - Michael Barrymore, for example.Comment
