Flip me, that's ambitious. Where do you plan to sail?

P.S. I know where you might be able to get a vintage destroyer, but the spoil sports have removed the firing pins from the 8" guns

I had this conversation with myself when I hit 40. Just starting to make it, young kids, etc.etc etc.

After realising that I would never be the first to conquer everest with a tibetan donkey strapped to my skateboard, and I would never be the first to split infinitives, I decided to keep it simple.

      sex
      beer
      games.

I would like to report that I met my objectives in the first year.

      and every year since

Okay, the first one is a tad ambitious.

I've got a Samba goal in the back garden. It leaves yellow patches on the grass if I don't move it regularly.

            Semi-retire at 40 i.e. work 6 -9 months max.
Retire at 45 i.e do contracts as and when I feel like it.

I'd like to do a one day event and finish it in one piece. I probably won't but it's still a possibility. Can't imagine a life where there is nothing more you want to do ...

Do you still have any goats in your life? She never wrote or phoned after the holiday romance.

I have achieved all of the goals I have set myself.

But my concern is whether I lacked ambition in setting those goals. For example I didn't set myself a goal of becoming a company chief executive, because I thought it was unattainable (that it would be very hard work over a long period of time to impress the bosses, my memory is tulip, and I would be destroyed by the office politics).

But maybe I was wrong. Mid life is about the confluence of regretting what you tried to do and failed, and regret at what you didn't even try to do.

                  I need a beer..

I've achieved almost all of the musical ambitions I had but not quite ticked all the boxes.

The most important ambition right now is to get the new business stable and providing the security I need for the future (out on a limb right now but that's the nature of a new biz). If I can consolidate that then the other related Plan B's can be added to the mix.

No lack of ambition or drive but I worry whether I have the stamina to put in the hours and maintain the effort in the coming years as I get older.
