You've obviously not been to the centre of Spain have you?

I did last year, and it was stinking hot, dusty, and quiet.

No, but who said they want to go there?

You must be one of those people who delights in visiting weird offbeat places. I worked with someone like that - Even when holidaying in Spain, it was inevitably two weeks in the baking hot dusty flat area in the middle, where nobody not even the Spanish wants to live (*) if they can avoid it

(*) although I think Madrid may be inland somewhere

I'd keep away from it until at least 12pm

                I really am

Both are fine and both are pretty snotty at the moment

First holiday since 2009 hopefully next month. Not sure where yet, avoiding warmer climes. Might do the Italian lakes or Scandanavia.

There are other lands out there other than Spain and the U.K., have a look at a map, you don't have to choose either middle of Spain or Touristy part of Spain.

There are even other big bits of land with lots of whole other countries in them!, these are called continents such as Asia, Africa, South America etc. One of these is where the OP talked about going.

Did you go to the same school as Mich?

We put our youngest in for 3 days a week this year, just to play with other kids etc. I don't think I have ever had such a constant stream of viruses. I know it's good for the kid to build its immunity, but you do get fed up of it.

Can't wait for her to come back out in June.

Nice to have the olds to babysit, and I am deeply envious.
