BTW Portugal deserved to go out last night, they were a disgrace to the game and the whole diving thing has to be wiped out quickly, it's getting out of control.
And Ronaldo was again the worse culprit.

Two contradictory statements from you that illustrate that all you want to do is slate Rooney.

And if you still believe he "stamped on a players nuts" then you obviously know little about physical contact sports, in fact, little about the effects on the human body.

Apart from the red card Wendigo, did Mr Rooney actually achieve anything ie a goal or even perhaps have a shot on target for all the hype ?

Do you know anything about football? His mere presence on the pitch causes the opposition to allocate 2 defenders to watch him thus freeing up space for the rest of the team. He succeeds by doing nothing even when he does nothing.

LOL I've played football my whole life, I play twice a week currently and that's in my old age, and in my best years I played at a relativly decent level (NSW state league when I lived in Aus, Amateur when I played in Scotland, and a decent level when I was a youth). I know football, and physical sports ...

As for Rooney, nah not in the slightest - he's an awesome player and on his day one of my favourites - but he has a nasty side which he needs to temper. Ronaldo may be one of the worst divers but the witchunt against him has nothing to do with diving IMO.

Aha so thats why they play him , I thought he was perhaps capable of actually hitting the ball on target on occasion,as for knowing about football Ive played for many years .

I did predict on this board before the tournament started that Rooney would receive a red card.

Gerards proved to be a far better player than Mr Rooney , perhaps you dont agree ?

I daresay it wont be his last red card either, as long as he is a hot head he is a liablity.

Oh he is a liability, and he will get a number of red cards in his career, but he is a sublime talent. When he turns it on he is awesome.
All our guys failed to live up to billing, but on the day they do..............

As you seem to think those players who do nothing for a couple of games are tulip what do you think of the Brazil side particularly Ronaldinho?

But Alf in another post you told us you supported Hamilton Accies!

Rooney (like the whole squad in fact) was let down badly by Sven (show me the money) Goran Erikson. Had there been striking cover Rooney could have played in his best position (just off the main striker) which he could have performed well even though he was obviously not fully fit.
He does have a temper/attitude problem and he's also one of the most gifted natural footballers these islands have produced for a long time, the two are not mutually exclusive. Will he learn to temper the temper, maybe and maybe not.
I think it becomes ever more clear that Erikson could organise a team to get results at the level of their team's ability but he can't motivate players to any extent. I'm also concerned (for england's sake) that McLaren doesn't seem to be any better at that.
                Why not?

There was sustained whistles and boos from the crowd every time Ronaldo touched the ball - right through last night's match.

Was that French fans ? Difficult to accept there were that many English fans there last night.

If it was French fans, it would seem there is equal resentment toward Ronaldo outside England.

I suspect it was England fans. There is a huge expat community in Munich and many will have had tickets as that is where England would have been had we beaten the cheating scum.

BTW Snaw and Alf: Being able to play doesnt make you an expert on the game.

Very true, but it does give you an insight into things that happen during a game that most people who've never played will never realise is going on. And without coming across like a know it all, I'm a football obsessive.

As a BTW Look out for the guy in the third row behind the dugouts at the final dressed in a see you jimmy hat, scotland top, kilt and blue and white face paint - that'll be me ;-)

Been for a week already and caught three games and gotta say it's the best tournament I've ever been to (My fourth).
