    Agreed. I wouldn't touch a pension with a syphilis-infested bargepole and I wish I knew in 1988 what I know now.

    Successive governments have been unable to resist fscking about with them to the extent that the disadvantages now far outweigh the benefits.

      Sounds like you've done a better job than my pension provider then. In their case the disaster was mitigated by the fleet of Mercedes S-Classes and BMW 7 series the board purchased for themselves. There might have been whores and cocaine involved too.

          What oother investments would be likely candidates?

          In my considered opinion I think you should make maximum annual contributions to your ISA until you have a decent pot and then reinvest the return.
