        Sounds a lot of fun!

        I built a 450bhp S-Max 4 years ago.

Yes thats right 3.0l twin turbo, though the twin turbos have been ditched for one massive one! The bottom ends are solid on them and with the right bits and tuning they can run 800hp on the motors without being built. I'm keeping the stock bottom end for a while until it blows then I'll beef it up. I've quite a bit of past experience with the Supras so I know with the right turbo and fuelling they'll make 500hp at 0.8 bar boost. It's also now minus the power steering and air con too and just contemplating whether to go dry sump or not.

What was your project, a Ford S Max..the MPV thing?

Can't wait for next year til I get up to Santa Pod for the first time! It should wheelie off the line!

I'm going to buy a tree, then I'm off to watch the return of Izale.

            I hope he doesn't score.

It really should wheelie off the line! I guess you'll go solid billet crank once it goes then? Would you be looking at close to a 1000bhp theoretical max then? That engine is quite bullet proof though isn't it?

We completely rebuilt the engine on the S-Max (MPV). We put in a CNC big valve head, Woosner forged pistons and PEC forged rods, billet flywheel and forged crank and stuck on a GT3071R and a few other bots and bobs (Quaife LSD/paddle clutch etc etc). Then Superchips custom mapped it, but could only get it to 368bhp with a huge hole in the power at 2800. Then met a lunatic Finnish guy who got me different injectors, larger turbo and then sent it off to a man in a shed in Lapland who mapped it to 450. We nearly went water cooled liners, and 4x4 and everything, but the project cost close to 50k and the wife called enough.

When we went to pick it up, the blokes daily was an 800bhp Toyota Camry he picked us up from the airport...

              S-Max was properly quick.

Lunched it in Germany though at about 150mph after a few much higher speed runs. losing 7 litres of oil and having quite a few kilos of metal throwing itself about at that speed on the front end put the scarys up me...

Last project I think I'll ever be allowed to do...

Shame, sounds like an awesome project.

I'm still in the early stages with this. Just about to put the engine in and then need to weld up some custom solid engine mounts to suit. I don't think it is going to be that straight forward as the oil pan sits in the way of the subframe so either a dry sump option or a custom one off wet sump will be the biggest obstacle.

Yes, when it blows it will be forged crank and up the capacity to either 3.2 or 3.4 I guess but thats when the money starts hiking up sharply. I'll build it myself which will save some money and my background as an engine mapper will help which fell between my 2 stints at contracting....

I worked with a chap who did his own mapping. Was tempted to get involved myself.

The good thing with your engine, is that it's an engine that the Japanese have tuned a lot, so parts whilst not common, will not be ridiculous. The S-Max was a volvo engine which the Scandanavians tune a lot, so whilst expensive, wasn't terrily so.

You'll map it yourself I presume? Piggy back ecu of just a replacement?
