I have one in my current contract, who came over and asked me if I had actually done anything this month. Just said 'no, and yet they still pay me £xxx a day'. The look on his face was simply breathtaking.

If permies have a word with me, I will openly tell them to go contracting if they have an issue with my rate.

One nearly had a fit when I was told to go home, as they couldn't afford overtime for me at my rate, but kept all the permies there.

No in reality, head down and invoice has always been my mantra but constant snide little comments in professional situations eventually get reactions and when you do start to play their game they feckin hate it.

Worked for a project for an absolute disaster of a place who promised work to a team of permies who were quite incapable of the task, when management hired in 5 contractors to do the task it was office war, "don't expect me to speak to them" was one permies loud comment to the room.

Current project is about 80% contractor and the permies are quite happy to have us here doing all their work 'cos It means they can continue surfing the net all day. Which is nice
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

Narky little comments mostly, envy of the day rate.

Why do so many permies give a stuff? What makes them think they have some 'special relationship' or bond with a big entity that just serves to provide profits for shareholders and will dump them just as quickly as will dump a contractor? Don´t even bother with the conversation. Yeah, I´m a contractor, deal with it.

Some of them do it for their families I suppose, kids, wife, home, I get that.

It is the, as you describe ,"I love client co with all my heart, I will thrown myself under a bus to stop them throwing me under the bus" types that go for this nonsense. Just cannot understand the weakness, the levels they go to, prostrations and arse licking.

Do tell - I'm looking for a decent bespoke tailor.
