It was wishful thinking DS. Do you remember that amazing round he put in at Carnoustie '99 when he was still an amateur? I've always wanted him to do well after that. -
I think it was 1998 actually, because in my mind I've linked it to O'Meara's win. Didn't Rose chip in at the last to finish third?Originally posted by pacharan View PostIt was wishful thinking DS. I can't remember the venue, but it wasn't Carnoustie or St Andrews. Could it possibly have been Lytham or Hoylake? I believe he turned professional after that and missed his first 20-odd cuts.Comment

Ah yes - perhaps Car-Nasty was the year so much was expected of himOriginally posted by Doggy Styles View PostI think it was 1998 actually, because in my mind I've linked it to O'Meara's win. Didn't Rose chip in at the last to finish third?

Yes I think it was. Carnoustie '99 was the awful weather, narrow fairways and deep rough, that Frenchman throwing away a three-shot lead on the last, and Paul Lawrie emerging victorious from a three-way play-off.Originally posted by pacharan View PostAh yes - perhaps Car-Nasty was the year so much was expected of him
Who can forget Froggy standing knee-deep in that burn, contemplating disaster. I can't remember his name, Jean something?Comment

That's him. I think it is spelt with a 'V' though.Originally posted by pacharan View PostVan de Welde?
Or was it Van Der Valk?
I see Justin has had a good first round, you might be on to something after all!Comment

Yes, just one of six players to have broken par.Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostThat's him. I think it is spelt with a 'V' though.

McIlroy has described the course as being indescribably difficult. Haven't seen any action yet but I'm guessing the weather isn't too great.
I see Woods is in the hunt too. Don't want him to win again. Heard some rather unsavory things concerning the way he treats other people recently.Comment

A bit of a quiz for you golfing enthusiasts out there:
Who played "The shot that was heard around the world"?
Where was it played and during which tournament?
What was so special about it?Comment

I've heard that in a non-golfing context, but in golf... hmm. I'm guessing.Originally posted by Malcolm Buggeridge View PostA bit of a quiz for you golfing enthusiasts out there:

What about Woods when winning his first major, the Masters in 1997 I believe? Perhaps when he sunk his final putt.
Or Seve driving the green at the par four 10th at the Belfry over that green-side stream? Never been done before. I don't recall the tournament though.Comment
