I always put British on official paperwork.

In conversation If I say I'm English I usually get the "Do you come from London?" treatment, so I avoid it there as well.
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Nationality is different from species. I thought you were a Welsh lizard.

Haven't read the article, but I suspect he is really somehow trying to answer the Scottish problem, which for him is why Scots are turning away from Labour.

Irish. Born in England, lived in England. But consider myself Irish. Never use my British passport, always use my Irish one. My accent is English, but I'm very much Irish.

Nation states are all ancient history and an irrelevance in modern times; you're all European now!
just checking to see if someone takes this seriously

I don't really get this. I don't identify more with a Geordie or Bristolian than I do with someone from Ireland, Australia or Canada. I guess culturally I consider myself Anglophonic.

                      Depends who I'm talking to.

Where are you from = England

To an American I'd normally describe myself as British
To a European I'd normally describe myself as English
                      To another Englishman, definitely English

                      I'm context sensitive
