It did strike me as particularly odd that on my last visit to England I had greater difficulty communicating in English with the locals than I do in Copenhagen.

Buying petrol was a particularly fraught experience. I eventually worked out with the shifty looking non-english speaking attendant that you now have to pay in advance at one place outside Mansfield. There was no notice to say so, hence I guess that is pretty common now.

    Glad I'm out of it...
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
threadeds website, and here's my blog.

Try taking the Ginster's Giant Cornish Pasty out of your mouth first.

I was toying with Isle of Man for the tax advantages but it's a little too close to home really. So I've settled on Malta (or Gozo). Cost of living is low, property is affordable (there are minimum values you have to purchase/rent over so as not to affect the locals, which is fair enough) and there is the option of being a long term temp resident or opting for permanent residency (different tax implications for each). The people are on the most part friendly and whilst it's not perfect (where is?) I like the place.

Anywhere that has the unfolding story of a 3 cent prise rise in bread as their headline issue for several weeks running in their main newspaper can't be all that bad! Apparently the government are in negotiations with the bakers union.

Oh and the weather is better for the majority of the time but winters can be grotty due it being a bit exposed out there in the Med.

I was looking at Malta as a site for running my business out of... I have visited often in the past and the people seemed pleasant - films in cinemas were shown in English etc. - only minus is that it is stuck in the middle of nowhere (perhaps that's a plus)

I'm heading to Cyprus for similar reasons.

80% of the population speak english (more than the UK since New Lie took over), taxation is the lowest in EU, good climate, friendly people with strong family values, low violent crime, good IT and telecoms infrastructure, and most of all.

              NO NEW LABOUR

Only problem with Cyprus is the British base and drunken squaddies

I've been to Cyprus many times and never seen a squaddie.

But then I don't hang around outside military bases looking for big stong soldiers like some here I guess.

You should be back on the line robotising humans, not hanging around outside army bases seeing if you can do any favours for them.

                      Very wise indeed, o Emperor.

You know what we say on Skaro: the only good human is a robotised human.
