The writer also obviously never met anyone who worked in a sandwich shop otherwise he wouldn't be so quick to judge young people.
I read an article recently that said that only 1 in 5 people that pret employs are British. And lower in London. So maybe the writer has almost no chance of meeting a young Brit in a sandwich shop?
