    That's thrown me, I was all geared up to be convinced that SAS was the only tool capable of processing large data volumes, and that Deliverance was the best food in London.

            I already use SPSS - it can't deal with large volumes generated e.g. by a transactional web site.
            OK for quick and dirty EDA on sample data sets.
            If there was a better alternative to SAS I'd use it since SAS is expensive, but so far still looking
