If you see how much rich people spend on personal security in turd world countries, I think it's obvious that a welfare state is a better way of keeping the peace in society.Originally posted by Arturo Bassick View PostCant't agree with that, though you do have a point.
The welfare state is possibly one of the greatest achievements any civilized nation has ever produced. It removed the need for the impoverished to beg or rely on charity and protected the vulnerable from exploitation. It means the sick can afford to be treated. A shinning beacon of humanity. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

I would agree with this. Ring fenced NI / compulsory healthcare insurance payments with a choice of insurer (state approved and meeting some minimum standards) and care delivered by the same private sector that delivers it to the rich.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSome form of private-public partnership as practised in most Euro countries is best. The Uk is the only centrally funded health system in Europe AFAIK.
As anyone who has used the NHS recently knows, it is badly in need of a shake-up.
This would also provide a windfall as the existing NHS could sold to existing management or trusts or even floated on the stock market. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Unions would never allow it, Labour would shout "Tories privitising the NHS!" from the rooftops and the proles would never allow it.Originally posted by doodab View PostI would agree with this. Face facts, UK is going to go bankrupt and the majority will be living in poverty for the rest of their lives.Comment

Both my family and I have used the NHS recently - it was fine. Perhaps the only thing that annoyed me was insisting on keeping my autistic son in overnight - when hospitals freak him out and so make him ill. It is also very ironic that the NHS give us a letter letting us bypass queues in theme parks - but we have to wait our turn in the NHS. But these are minor issues - the quality of care is excellent.Originally posted by sasguru View PostAs anyone who has used the NHS recently knows, it is badly in need of a shake-up.
Are you having problems with the NHS? Are they not sorting out your mental health issues which cause you to be so aggressive?
Would you also like to bring back debtors prisons too?Comment

The one thing I did not miss was your unwarranted aggressive attacks on all and sundry. A great pity really as 10% of your posts are absolutely brilliant.Originally posted by sasguru View PostBit rich given your expulsion from this site, no?Comment

Agree that private parties can offer a good deal on the supply side of healthcare, but the set up over here with everybody getting private insurance plus considerable government subsidy is not going well; quite simply, insurers demand a say in how healthcare is provided and managed, and insurers don't know how to manage healthcare; they're making a big, expensive, bureaucratic mess which is much worse than when 90% of people had state health insurance.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSome form of private-public partnership as practised in most Euro countries is best.
