The program is 10 years too late. Everyone thinks they can move down under and buy a huge property, and then live largely the same as the UK with better weather.

Unfortunately you cant buy a properly over there cheap anymore, unless its out in the sticks.

      Easy life here?

That may have been true 20 years ago but not now.

I've worked here in Sydney, London and Asia extensively and its not noticeably easier here really. In the big cities in Oz, people work just as hard here as they do in London. People are working in this office till 7pm+ every day.

The difference is the commuting is a lot less painful here.
And the weekends are better because of the weather (Jan->May is usually nice in NSW).

It (around $600k?) would out this way if you're prepared for a reasonable commute.

          That's not been my experience.

I'm working with one person that moved from the UK to Sydney but found day-to-day life there too much hassle so they moved to New Zealand.

Day-to-day life in Auckland is a piece of piss in comparison, you just have to adjust to having much, much, less money.

I'm the sort of person that wants to make his life better, not worse. I had a good set up in London. Therefore I am restricted to the top areas of Sydney. Otherwise migration was pointless.

                Where is "out this way"?

                  What do you do?

I'm still here writing code and it's 6pm. Nobody has left yet and I sit with the business. Actually, one person left - the token Aussie on the team.

This is what you will get for $560K (360K sterling) in a decent area where you don't have a London type commute:

                    http://www.domain.com.au/Property/Fo...did=2009244132

That's a small flat and the area aint that good. But it is half an hour from the city centre...on a good day.
