    6 months up front is too much, get a hotel/B&B for the first few weeks (at a higher rate I know) until the gig is settled and you can commit. Let the lord of the manor know that you are doing it and after a week or two he will buckle.

        Are you relocating, or working away from home for a while?
        If you are relocating for a contract then you are mad

        If you are looking for a 'home' for a contract whilst you have a permie 'home'
        then you are mad.

        So either way, you are bonkers, in my humble opinion.

        Find the cheapest accomodation that will keep you sane, maximise your profit, and forget about finding a home from home.

              You know whats weird, i offered just that! But then the land lord came back and wanted the deposit on-top of that as well, plus legal fees which just comes to a crazy figure up front (just shy of 20K)...all because i am on a rolling contract.

              ...On-top of that i have to furnish the place as well, plus arrange for the phone lines to be installed (its a new build. but the costs are reimbursable). Its also still in the middle of a building site (...which is due to finish the end of the year).

              So with this in mind, i thought that we could reach and happy position for all parties, but despite it all he just won't give up. I threw back a note to the agency and said i can pay 6 months up front, or i can pay 3 months + deposit, but i can't do 6 Months + Deposit + Fees + Furnishing on-top.

              I guess the ball is squarely in their court now, all i can do is wait it out, but in the mean time i have a "plan B" where a friend has offered me to rent there place for a few months while i find my feet.

              Any other ideas/thoughts to help persuade the landlord would be appreciate :-)

                20K on a renter for 6 months?
                You are doing something wrong.
                Have you considered buying?

                Ring the guy back and tell him to shove it. If he is being this difficult now then he will be just as difficult when it comes to getting your deposit back.

                  Sorry but it sounds like the landlord is trying to drive you away because he doesn't like/understand contracting. Go with plan B.

                    Aha. Sounds like a novice BTL landlord who hasn't yet faced the reality of an empty property which he's paying a hefty mortgage for.

                    Go with Plan B, or start looking again.

                      Thanks Guys :-)

                      I have thrown them my previous offer back and will see what they do, in the mean time i have thrown my PlanB into action and talking numbers and dates with them just incase it all goes sour.

                      Until then i am in serviced accommodation (finished moving in at 2AM yesterday, what a way to spend a saturday night!!). Hopefully i won't be here too long, at least i can claim the tax back on it though which is a bonus!
