It's 2 miles to central station though. Fairly basic no frills accommodation..
Trust me, you don't want to stay in that part of Glasgow.

I'd personally look for something in the Merchant City or, a little further out, the West End - not sure why you need to walk - plenty of public transport to Central Station, but if you want to post or PM your shortlist to me I can advise on good/bad locations.

My money is on JP Morgan.

I am going to be on client site for about 10 weeks. Has to be within a mile of Glasgow Central Station, so can walk daily.

      Cheers.
No you don't want to be living in walking distance of central station. You really don't. The only area that's nice is perhaps some of old houses near bridge street.

Would recommend looking near the underground stops, especially those in the west end. It's quick and the living is fantastic you'll not want to move back.

Went for a night out on Glasgow last night. Pub crawl, club, kebab at 3am then wandering around the city centre while I ate, talked to a few amiable drunks and taxi home. No problem.

Then again I didn't have an English accent or an atittude.

No idea if it's in your budget range, but the MalMaison is a fine hotel plus it's in walking distance of the two main stations.

I used to stay in Menzies Milton, very central and a nice 4* with gym for discounted rate of 70, may be worth asking about any negotiations for a longer term stay.

For food, the 5pm website has cracking deals.

Ditto Fraser Suites by Merchant City, that would be my preference, also the several Premier Inns around the place. Avoid Holiday Inn Express like the plague!

The thing is after spending few years in London, I hate Public Transport. So it is either cycling or walking. Not sure how friendly Glasgow is in both the case. How is the public transport like? I just went on to have a look at citylets, and they have some cheap flats around £500 per month in RotherGlen and Botanics. Are they good areas? As I said, I might be only there for about 2.5 months, so am not too fussy about neighbourhood, as long as it is safe enough to walk out of the door in morning and evenings.

              Thanks.
              Dave.

Anyone hiring just now (If it is good money it will be Barclays Wealth or JP I would think) will be in a location I would not advise you to stay in. I tend to say to people do not go west of Central station below Bath Street past 8 O'clock. Hookers and all the assorted crime that goes with it. Menzies is a decent hotel but I worked in the building opposite and we used to get any girls leaving the office back to the station.

Public transport is plentiful and cheap.

Cylcing - I was nearly killed when ran over by a car in 1985 in an accident the Mount Florida area - I survived - but couldnt walk for several months.

Then in 1987 whilst cycling down a very steep hill near Castlemilk ( a picturesque suburb in the South of Galsgow) a group of thugs in a car tried to ram me off my bicycle whsilst I was doing a high speed downhill - it was only because I managed to outwit them by continually swerving that you are able to read this sad tale.

If I were you I would look for a place near KelVin Side- which has ome beautiful areas - University . Byres Road ...cafes , bars etc .and a very safe area with abundant Buses and a metro link to Cetral Station - CS is a rather grubby area is not the safest of places .

PS Rutherglen - despite its charming name - its a complete pit - best avoided ... on the other hand - Botanics is a really good area as its adjacent to Byres Road (see above).

And - whatever you do - good luck and enjoy your stay in ''Ra Toon !

                  Your call.

Rutherglen, no! Botanics yes. but just watch out it is not really rebranded Maryhill. Westend has the underground which is very handy. Southside has a great train network, North and East generally have not too much need for transport infrastructure (a polite way of saying nobody works there). As with most places these days you can walk a length of a street and go from exclusive to tulip hole.

Think Finneston area, I have no idea what the Lorne Hotel on Sauchiehall street is like inside but it is a good area with decent pubs restaurants slightly stepped back from both the west end and the town.

I used to say on St Vincent Crescent which is nice...
