    > Most of the time I drive on autopilot

I designed that and one of my many multi-national companies sells it.

That cheapskate fiddleabout just uses tomtom on his c500 phone with the freebie poi database from www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php He also told me he saw a GPS based detector advertised by Woolworths for £79.99 which is almost as incredible as .... errr... well it's incredible anyway.

Cheers for that dazza. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It was just after 3 in the morning and, ironically enough, I was on my way to sort out a problem at a Dorset Police Control Room!! >:
Maybe I can use that in mitigation if I do get nabbed?
Don't remember any other cars coming in the opposite direction although another one went past the camera a bit ahead of me. Oh well, time will tell.

          another one bites the dust

          > Twas one of the large yellow ones and I was driving towards it at night when it flashed

Well well well, what do we have here -- someone who was gloating at me being done for alleged speeding? :rolleyes

          > Maybe I can use that in mitigation if I do get nabbed?

          No.

I suggest you spend time reading this forum -- pepipoo.com/NewForums2/viewforum.php?f=5

If I were you I'd get ready to fight -- the risk is small -- its the points that the main issue and they rarely give more than 3 in court, costs of court are generally low too (what is a hunner to a contractor).

          -------

Now some useful stuff for a change:

          1) It sounds like it was GATSO -- there are 2 in 3 chances that there was no film in it

          2) GATSO's are not meant to take pictures from the front -- was there a central reservation? Were there speed trap marks on your side of the road?

          3) GATSO's appear to be grossly inaccurate -- the competent guy who proved it is now jumping through courts - www.notsoaccurate.com/

If you were in Brum he could have been your expert witness -- he really took it personal and now fights in courts at any opportunity.

No - it flashed as he was driving towards it so it was either a Truvelo or, unlikely but possible, a gatso on the other side of the road. They are all now covered with reflective yellow stuff. (apart from the ones covered in scorch marks)

GATSO's flash even if they have no film and they flash if you drive fast towards them -- mate of my finds it funny to trigger these while being on the other side of dual carriageway where camera can't see you

Truvelo's are rather rare, and I find that those bastids don't paint them yellow (at least in the West Midlands). :rolleyes

Not if you live in Northants - there's one every 300 yards.

                  Re: gatso

Yes gatsos flash with no film who said they don't?

                  > Truvelo's are rather rare, and I find that those bastids don't paint them yellow (at least in the West Midlands).

HMG were stung by criticism to the effect that speed cameras were simply moneyboxes not road safety devices and they are all now supposed to be yellow.

In my neck of the woods the Truvelos are breeding like wildfire and outnumber gatsos by a wide margin. Does shauhnbhoy live in the west midlands or were you just exercising your fingers for no purpose?

                      Re: gatso

Theres a stretch as you exit nottingham to the north. it has to be one of the most hazzardous stretches of road I've ever driven down thanks to these cameras. It's a 40mph limit dual carriageway but you get the old fogeys and assorted muppets worried that anything above 25mph will result in a conviction. This doesnt stop them from slamming the breaks on whenever they approach one.
