My issue is with the word: worth. It begs an undeserved sense of entitlement.
What an individual is 'worth' has no bearing on what they are paid. Never has done and never will do. Everything is and must be measured against the business case. Most people are paid enough so they don't leave, thereby supporting the business they work for.
Us contractors are typically measured in terms of how we can deliver a particular business case. It may seem steep to pay a contractor £500+ a day to cut some code for six months, but if that code enables the company to make a few more £m then who cares?
Is someone ever 'worth' paying, say, £100m a day? Most people would of course say 'no'. Then ask them what is the most they would pay someone to put out the oil fires in Kuwait after the first Iraq war.

ARE YOU WORTH YOUR WAGE?
We are looking for talented professionals who are absolutely worth their wage to appear in a new series for Channel 4 about working life and pay in Britain.
The purpose of the series is simple. We will follow a small group of talented individuals with contrasting jobs and salaries as they spend time experiencing and comparing each other’s working lives. We are particularly keen to find successful individuals willing to demonstrate the hard work, responsibility, working hours and pressure that comes with being a high-earner.
This series goes beyond tabloid stereotypes and instead of criticising high earners - instead looks at why different jobs are worth their wage. We want to challenge preconceptions about certain professions and break the taboo about revealing how much we earn.
Are you stereotyped based on your job? Would you like the chance to set the record straight about your profession and show how you are worth every penny?
So, you want us to go on TV to brag about how much we earn? While so many people in the country are suffering through redundancies, etc. The programme sounds bloody awful.
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.
