That photo dates from when people supported their local club or the one that was local when they grew up and the clubs weren't huge commercial brands. Innocent days.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if 75% of the "fans" of the big league clubs have never been in the same city, let alone the ground where "their" team plays.

Exactly! In my innocent youth, late 60's early 70's, I only heard of Burnden Park and Wembley, I was born and raised in Bolton, my family and dear departed parents all avidly supported Bolton Wanderers, as do I, though very part time nowadays. I couldn't even think about supporting any other team, though we are now doing quite well, we've had very little days of glory since 1958 when we beat Man U 2-0 fairly and squarely.

My Dad was at Burnden Park in 1946, anyone know what happened then? Probably not, no books or TV progs. about it or clocks stopped at the time it happened.

I'm constantly impressed that there are 75,000 homosexuals in Manchester and that they all can afford season tickets.

I'm also amazed by the number of uni'ed supporters who have never been to a game - even an away game. I don't support any team, I don't particularliy enjoy football, and yet I've been to four games at EWood park.

Most who support ManU, in my book, are simply on a bandwagon.
McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."

United were constantly the best supported club for as loing as I can remember. The season when they won promotion back to division 1, they had the best attendace in the football league even though they were not in the top flight. That's hardly a bandwagon! It's much harder to get into Old Trafford these days compared with when I was a teenager and when I used to go to pretty much every home game - during the Atkinson years when we were rubbish but still managed gates of 54,000. But then going to Ewood park I don't suppose you get issues with big crowds!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

              I preferred version 1!

Have to commend the posters on here for not saying we've won this, we've done that.
Find it laughable when you hear some retard talking about what they have achieved despite their actual contribution being mainly consumption of alcohol and stuffing lard into a replia shirt (is there anything sadder than seeing this on a fat adult in a town centre).
I would rather win 5-a-side on a monday night than claim some vicarious link to a football team. Have an interest by all means but pinning your life's ambitions and happiness to how well a team does is very sad.

Totally agree with that. It does seem to be the be all and end all for many people in england/scotland. So much so in Scotland that it takes on a sectarian dimension... It's just a game, but you can see how it is filling the void that religion has left in peoples minds and obsessions.

Bollox, the religion is just an excuse to hate the other side. Give your atypical idiot any label to grab onto as an excuse to hate someone else and they'll use it.

is it any different to Manc / Scouse haterd?
"I hope Celtic realise that, if their team is good enough, they will win. If they're not good enough, they'll not win - and they can't look at anybody else, whether it is referees or any other influence." - Walter Smith

On them! On them! They fail!

To be fair the sectarian element does seem to add an extra level of viciousness over and above the ludicrous "we hate them just because they wear a different shirt" nonsense. I recall a link posted on here of some poor Glaswegian beggar who was knifed and killed just because he supported the wrong team.

I agree I do find it absurd when people talk about the team they support in terms of we did this, we won that as in the vast majority of cases the fans have absolutely no stake in the teams (club isn't a suitable term, they're huge commercial businesses these days) and odds are many haven't even been within a hundred miles of their "home" ground.
