In future, tell them you need to stay in the Watermill in Bourne End. The pubs across the road do good beer and food.
One close to Paradise Industrial Estate. It has to be called that for a reason!!

Oh, complete with the #3 breakfast bag. Joyful.

It was - they were taking the piss.

Your best bet for going out is to walk up to the Old Town at the other end of the Marlowes. The better pubs are up there. It's only about a 20 minute walk. There's bugger all at the Magic Roundabout end of the town now.

Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a huge Beefeater pub by the Kodak building called the Waggon & Horses. One of the best ever pubs I ever frequented.

It was pulled down to allow a development that never happened. It is now the site of another hotel, a "Premier Inn", one of the very worst hotels I have ever have had the displeasure of staying in.

Keywords for Google: Premier Inn Hemel Hempstead Moor End Road no parking tulip staff, tulip room, no ventilation, smells, stairs, tulip lift, tulip location, very expensive, too hot, rude staff, avoid avoid avoid.

Do not be tempted to go into the Wetherspoons pub "The Full House". It is where the chavs get tanked up before spending the night in WallyWorld up the road. You will end up in a fight. Just count the bouncers on the door and the notices about drug taking and interpret those as "Don't enter".

That used to be a lovely art deco cinema, BTW.

You might do as well taking a walk along Waterhouse Street toward the bus station. There's a couple of restaurants along there where you could spend the evening getting pissed on Cobra over a slow curry.

Sadly, Casanova's, the excellent Italian restaurant has gone, so you can't go there.

If you're on expenses, see if you can book a table at The Spinning Wheel in The High Street in the old town. It's right at the far end of the town centre; get a cab. It won't be cheap.

There used to be an excellent authentic French restaurant opposite The Spinning Wheel where the directors used to take us for a slap up nosh whenever we got a system delivered on time. If that's still there, it's worth going to.

Here we go for a simple but decent night out in Hemel:

Up to the old town and into the Rose and Crown (boozer), then on to The Old Bell (olde worlde pubbe withe reale alee).

Then onto The Mogul for a proper British curry. (I'd forgotten about The Mogul. Ask the waiter whether that bloke who was a business analyst still works there in the evenings.)

Get the restaurant to get you a cab back to the hotel.

          Job's a good 'un.

            I can hardly wait.

May just get sloshed in my room and be in denial....

What is really galling is that my boss is living it up in a top hotel in Jerusalem seeing another supplier. There is no justice in life.

Even Swindon is better and that is saying something......

I can vouch for the less than inspiring Hemel Hempsted industrial estates - My current site is in Maylands: let’s be thankful that it only lasts until May 27th

the three horseshoes - a hundred yards down the canal - is better than both of those.

At least it's not Buncefield Depot. Blowing up was the best thing that ever happened to it. (Just don't ask any tricky questions about why BP left their head office across the road before the site blew up.)

Then it must have improved a lot of late. I had a stand up row with the landlady in there, so I shall not be back in a rush.

She got uppity when I complained at waiting over an hour for a steak & chips one lunchtime: she had a go at me for being impatient. Since the beer wasn't up to scratch either, I made the decision not to return.

Wilmslow: it seems you could organise a CUK RLM while you're in Hemel.

Thank Christ I am here for just one night. Stuff all here, resorted to a Chinese buffet talking shop with colleagues who fecked off to travelodge at 7.30. Gone to the bar at the Premier Inn with a Kindle and my bb. When you are envious of a premier inn you need to assess your quality of life!!
