Alomst all the books that I have read or want to read are not availible on the kindle, the sony reader is worse. i.e. even less of a book catalog.
I also find it an over priced gadget for something that does just one thing. The kindle DX which you can only get in the US is slightly better but again is way over prced and they do not support colour.

How does that work if you spend most of your time outside your country of residence?

On last week's flight home I was interested as I sat beside someone reading from his Kindle, as I read from my Picador. Come takeoff, I switched on the overhead light, he had to switch off his Kindle. Hm.

Anyway, I just can't bring myself to tie myself in to a single supplier of media. I would need something that reads e-books of various formats, not to mention PDFs.

I've got a 3G Kindle and it's brilliant. It does need a case though. I got the £50 black leather jobby with the built in light and again you get what you pay for. The built in light is really useful. I've been using it every day for two months and the screen is great - easy to read and does not strain the eyes at all.

My only comment is it's a little slow with 1300 books loaded and the menu system could be improved.

I would definitely recommend downloading Calibre for eBook management and conversion. You might even be able to torrent loads of books and load them for free. I couldn't possibly say.

With a free app like Calibre you can convert any format, such as pdb, pdf etc to the kindle format, so you argument hinges on the 10 minutes of take off on a flight that you can't use it? Not the most compelling point, Did you go to the same school as Wodewick?

No. I did not actually make an argument against.

Thanks for the info on Calibre.

                  Can you photocopy a kindle?

TBH, I did look at those and the sony ones but the first five books I looked for weren't available in ebook format so I gave up.

                  Feynmann lectures on physics
                  The art of computer programming
                  Solaris performance and tools
                  The glass bead game
I forget the other one, some novel or other.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Yeah, some books are missing, all you can do is buy those books in tree format, but over the years im sure the missing books will reduce in numbers.

Is there a standard for mathematical symbols that is is used by e-readers?

Does anyone have any mathematical texts on a Kindle and what's the display like? I've seen too many bad reviews of Kindle versions of mathematical texts on Amazon, but perhaps that's changed?
