Moving Abroad.

Just read the wikipedia article on Shenzhen and it does look really impressive. Am surprised at how much open space it does seem to have for such a large city. My worry would be that it is nearly the fastest growing city in the world so how long will that last.

As an added bonus I see it's twinned with Rotherham. I can see the similarity

The Chinese have a good sense of humour hence Rotherham. It can't grow much more, mountains to the north and sea to the south.

I crossed the border to Shenzhen from HK about 10 years ago, was pick pocketed 5 minutes later!

I can imagine it's come a long way since then though. I recall visiting what I thought was a shoe shop only to see the entire shelf of shoes slide away to reveal Rolex watches.

We're planning to register in Germany next year for a simple life, using the UK Ltd is just more hassle than it's worth. I am surprised how simple it is to keep my affairs as a freelancer over there compared to the UK, I've always been put off by even some of the posts here. Honestly, it's easy.

ClientCo would like me to move to Canada and I did jump through the immigration hoops so it's now a possibility. No doubt the quality of life would be better than here but I haven't made up my mind yet whether to make the move.

I've worked in most European countries as well as the US and Canada in the past, Canada would be first choice with perhaps Germany if I moved to Europe.

Am amazed that's even a consideration. With a decent accountant, a few insurances here and there and a bit of common sense it's a piece of piss. If you use the hassle of running a UK ltd as a key factor in your choice of country to live in that sounds like madness to me and you're unlikely to be happy anywhere.

The girly knows someone who was traveling through China years ago and got pick pocketed, the police rounded up the usual suspects and when she picked the culprit out a policeman pulled his revolver out and shot him in the head. True story.

A new city called Shenzhen just across the border from HK. As for lifestyle being better:

Very low crime and friendly, helpful, and honest people
Big community spirit
With exception of western fashion and wine everything is fairly cheap
Lots of public open space and recreational facilities
Good work ethic - both employer and employee
No cold callers, or marketeers stopping you in the street - in fact no pressurised selling at all
You can offer a tip but nearly everyone except taxi drivers will give it back
Good all year round climate
Service is superb, the streets, public areas, shops are cleaned all day - possibly why so little unemployment
No lying sensationalist newspapers

You can get a sofa delivered same day

It is madness, but that's what happens when you income streams from 3 different countries at the same time. Those one contracts/ors at a time don't know you're born!

If you get assistance with visas Canada is one of the most affable counties to move to the emigration hoops are less than expected, it has one of the better qualities of life and if you can cope (as I'm sure you can being Scottish) with throwing on a few extra layers in the winter then there shouldn't be a problem.
